Welcome to a new event at LinkyHere….Social Media Week! Do you use social media to promote your blog? Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Instagram, etc…..? If you don’t, you should. Social media is a great way to interact with your readers. It allows them to get to know you on a more personal level.
Let me use Twitter as an example of this. When I started my blog, I primarily used Facebook to promote it. I knew some bloggers were also using Twitter but I couldn’t figure out why. I decided to set up a Twitter account for my blog hoping that I would see what I was missing. It was easy to do and I immediately gained some followers by linking my account up to a Twitter blog hop.
One day, I just sat for an hour and watched and read (lurked) my blog’s Twitter page. Then I saw what I was missing. There were alot of “tweets” about giveaways on blogs that I would have never known about if I hadn’t read it on twitter. Tweets about current linky parties and blog hops. More so than on Facebook…alot more. Also, fun stuff like how good the new flavor of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is or about the drama going down on the TV show, Bachelorette (not that I got hooked on that or anything). Things move fast on Twitter. I love that about it. It’s personal and real.. What a great way to meet people.
Social media is also another way to share your blog with readers. Some people use social media so much that it becomes a way of keeping up with their favorite blog’s posts. Readers are great but it’s not the only way to follow your favorite blogs.
One of the most important aspects of growing a blog is expanding it’s visual element. You know the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”? Using images to promote your blog can be a huge asset. Social media sites are great for that. Sharing images on Facebook and Twitter is easy to do and you can “chat” about the image with followers. Instagram and Pinterest are all about images. Followers can comment on your photos there too. Our own Aimee (Aimee & Co.) will be starting an Instagram follow along on Friday, July 20th. We live in an increasingly digital world and we have to learn to adapt to it and use it to our advantage. That’s especially true in the blogging world. One of the things that I’d like to do at LinkyHere is to help connect bloggers via social media. I want to celebrate the benefits that social media can give to bloggers by having a “Social Media Week” at LinkyHere.
This week, several blogs are hosting social media blog hops so you can start or increase your followers. To find out the “where” and “when”, just click on the “general” tab at the top of the page.
When you are there, you will be able to find lists (sorted by days of the week) of the blogs that are hosting social media blog hops. Find one (or more!) to link up your social media page to so you can meet and greet your new followers. I will be on Facebook and Twitter this week talking about it also.
